6 Car Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Buick or GMC Car in Great Shape

Your Buick or GMC is a superior, high-performance vehicle built to provide you with reliability and safety. To keep it that way, regular car maintenance from the certified technicians at your GMC dealer is essential. The following maintenance tips will help you to ensure that your Buick Enclave Essence or GMC Acadia always performs at its best. 6 Car Maintenance Tips From Your GMC Dealer To Keep Your Buick or GMC Car in Great Shape 1. Familiarize Yourself With Your Vehicle's Owner's Manual Your vehicle's owner's manual has all the necessary information to keep your Buick or GMC in excellent running condition. Everything you need to know about the operation and maintenance of your vehicle is in your owner's manual, from the proper oil to use and tire pressure to the meaning of the dashboard warning lights. Most importantly, your owner's manual contains your car's service schedule and maintenance intervals. 2. Follow the Service Schedule Your vehicle has a service schedule and maintenance intervals to help you keep your car in excellent running condition. When you follow the maintenance intervals and rely on expert maintenance services from certified technicians, you will save money on gas and repairs, and your car will last longer. 3. Change the Oil at the Recommended Intervals One of the essential maintenance services is oil changes. Engine oil lubricates the moving components under the hood, reduces friction, and optimizes your engine's performance. Regular oil changes with the proper grade of oil at the recommended intervals will increase your vehicle's fuel efficiency and protect your engine. 4. Keep an Eye on the Oil Life Monitoring System (OLMS) The Oil Life Monitoring System (OLMS) monitors your speed, engine temperature, engine revolutions, and mileage and will alert you when your Buick or GMC needs an oil change. When the "Change Engine Oil Soon" message comes on, schedule an appointment for an oil change as soon as possible. Even with OLMS alerts, replace your car's oil at least every 12 months because oil deteriorates over time, becomes dirty, and doesn't provide sufficient lubrication, which will increase wear and cause overheating. 5. Fit Genuine Buick and GMC Replacement Parts When your car needs replacement parts, it's always best to use parts specifically manufactured for your vehicle. Genuine Buick and GMC parts will provide you with reliable, long-lasting performance. You can conveniently shop for parts online on our website, and the part specialists will help you find the right replacement part for your car. 6. Rely on Expert Maintenance and Repair Services To ensure that you enjoy every mile behind the wheel of your Buick or GMC, rely on expert maintenance and repair services from the certified technicians at our dealership. Our technicians use advanced technology and cutting-edge equipment, fit genuine Buick and GMC parts, and guarantee services of the highest quality that you can rely on to keep your vehicle fuel-efficient, safe, and on the road for years to come. When it comes to your Buick or GMC, only the best maintenance and repair services are good enough. Call Crain Buick GMC of Springdale today to schedule an appointment, and our certified and experienced technicians will take expert care of all your vehicle's automotive needs.

5 Symptoms of a Faulty Ignition Coil

Ignition coils are a small but essential component of your engine. Your coils transform the relatively low voltage of your battery into a powerful surge that allows your spark plugs to ignite the fuel in the engine's cylinders. If you have a faulty ignition coil, your engine will falter. So if you notice any of the following five indicators of trouble, visit your local GMC dealer promptly for a replacement coil. 5 Symptoms of a Faulty Ignition Coil Your Engine's Misfiring Any coughing or sputtering from your engine accompanied by a jolting sensation means your engine's misfiring. When misfiring, your engine might lose power altogether for a few seconds. It's a very worrying sensation when you're on the road. A misfire is when the combustion process that fires your cylinders and powers your car doesn't happen properly. The fuel-air mixture is pumped into the combustion chamber but the spark plug fails to ignite it. Misfiring almost always comes down to either a faulty spark plug or coil. You're Idling Roughly When your cylinders aren't all firing correctly, you'll notice it very clearly when idling, such as while you're waiting at a traffic light. The usually smooth, pleasant rumble of your engine in idle will become a juddering, faltering, noisy experience. You Start Stalling At worst, your misfiring engine will stall altogether. It might then be difficult to restart the engine. This is only likely to happen if more than one of your coils has given up the ghost. You're Accelerating Sluggishly With a malfunctioning ignition coil reducing your engine's power, you won't be able to accelerate as quickly as before. Hopefully, you'll notice this problem and have it fixed before you try to overtake another vehicle. Overtaking is one of the only situations when slower acceleration can become quite dangerous. You See Black Smoke From Your Tailpipe When fuel fails to ignite and burn in your combustion chambers, all that excess, unburned fuel needs to escape from the engine. It eventually gets blown out of your exhaust, usually in the form of thick black smoke. Your Check Engine Light Blinks On All these engine problems resulting from a bad coil will quickly be detected by your GMC's sophisticated computerized monitors. You'll then see the dreaded check engine light blinking on your dashboard. Whenever you see that light, it's best to visit a technician right away. How a GMC Dealer Examines Your Coils A technician at your local dealership will use tools to interface with your GMC's onboard computer. This helps them pinpoint the problem area that the car's monitors have detected. They'll take out the spark plugs and coils and use a multimeter to test them all. If your malfunctioning coil can't be cleaned or repaired, they'll replace it with a new one. Have your engine and coils examined today at Crain Buick GMC of Springdale. We offer top-notch, personalized service and excellent vehicles.

Car AC Not Working? Visit Your GMC Dealer Today

You rely on the aircon in your car to keep the air in the cabin cool, dry, and comfortable, but it's easy to take it for granted until it stops working well. With the car AC not working, a warm and humid Arkansas summer's day can quickly become an ordeal, so it's worth staying alert to the signs that it's struggling. Here are some of the ways you can tell that it might be time to schedule an appointment with your GMC dealer and give the AC some TLC. Car AC Not Working? Visit Your GMC Dealer Today Look Keep your eyes open for any water dripping from the dashboard, or water marks on the floor, as these are a sign that the exit pipe is blocked. It can damage your car if left untended, so schedule a service to unclog the system. Smell Problems with your aircon will often manifest as a bad smell in the cabin. Watch out for the following odors: Musty Sometimes mold can grow in the air conditioning, especially if your vehicle is older, and will result in a mildewy smell coming through the vents. If the air filters need changing, this can also lead to the buildup of bacteria and cause a musty smell. As well as making your drive unpleasant, this is bad for your respiratory health, so it's important to get the system cleaned out. Chemical If coolant is leaking somewhere in the system, it can blow a chemical scent into the cabin or sometimes a syrupy sweet odor. Burning Obviously, any burning smell should be investigated immediately, but it might be a problem with the aircon compressor. If it's broken so that the belt can't turn smoothly, it will generate a burning odor, either from the belt or the unit itself. Feel If the air blowing from the vents is warm, or if it starts cool and quickly becomes warm, then your AC unit needs some attention. While it might require in-depth diagnosis, it could be a simple matter of refreshing the coolant levels. It should keep the air dry as well as cool, so if the cabin feels stuffy or muggy, there could be a problem with the humidity regulation. Listen Keep your ears open for a grinding, whistling, whining, or rattling noise coming from the aircon unit, as this is another sign that the unit needs service. Of course, if the air conditioning won't turn on, or turn off, then it will also need attention. Even if it doesn't lead to more expensive problems, it's not worth letting it spoil your driving experience. So if you notice any of these symptoms, contact us at Crain Buick GMC of Springdale so that our trained technicians can locate and solve the issue. Image via Pixabay.com by ninofficialphotopraphy

5 Benefits of Getting Routine Transmission Service

The transmission in your GMC Terrain, Sierra, or Acadia has many components that work together to move the power from the engine to the wheels. A transmission service from the certified technicians at your GMC dealer will improve your vehicle's performance and save you loads of cash on gas and repairs. 5 Benefits of Getting Routine Transmission Service at Your GMC Dealer 1. Your Vehicle Will Run Smoothly and Last Longer Regular transmission inspections and services ensure that your vehicle's transmission is always perfect. When you take your car for services at the recommended maintenance intervals, the GMC technician will thoroughly inspect every transmission component, check the mountings and the seals, and look for leaks. The components will be well-lubricated, and your car will run smoothly and stays on the road for longer. The transmission fluid will also be checked and topped off or changed if needed. Look in your vehicle's owner's manual for the transmission inspections and transmission fluid replacement intervals, or ask your GMC technician for information. 2. Your Transmission Will Be Protected A transmission replacement is costly, and that is why regular services and transmission fluid replacements are so important. Transmission fluid lubricates the moving components to minimize friction that causes heat and ultimately wears down parts. Over time transmission fluid becomes old and dirty and loses its protective qualities. When the fluid is contaminated, it can't perform the task of lubricating and cooling the moving components, directly affecting your vehicle's engine performance. Changing the transmission fluid reduces friction, ensuring the smooth running of all the parts. 3. Your Gears Will Function Properly When transmission fluid is old and contaminated, it overheats and turns into a thick sludge. The gooey substance prevents the components from moving smoothly, clogs the gears, and causes friction. When the transmission fluid isn't lubricating and cooling the parts, you will struggle to shift gears and even hear awful noises from the damage being done. Changing the transmission fluid at the recommended intervals will ensure that the components are well lubricated, running smoothly, and reduce friction, heat, and wear. 4. You'll Spend Less on Gas When your vehicle's transmission is in good working order and running smoothly, you will save money at the gas pump. All you have to do to save cash on gas is stick to your car's factory-recommended service intervals and ask your GMC technician to perform regular transmission inspections and transmission fluid replacements. If your vehicle's transmission is well-maintained, there will be less strain on components, and the engine will perform at its best. When your engine is running well, your car will use less oil, and you will not spend as much cash on gas. 5. You'll Save Money on Repairs Your transmission has many moving parts, and when one fails or breaks, you will have to pay high repair costs or even fork out a heap of cash on a transmission replacement. When you take your car for regular services, the GMC technician will spot minor problems early on and repair them before more damage occurs, which could lead to expensive repairs or even a transmission replacement. With regular services from a qualified GMC technician at your dealership, your GMC will run at its best, and you will prevent unexpected breakdowns and repairs, saving you heaps of cash. Ask the GMC technician at your dealership to service your vehicle to ensure your transmission is in perfect working condition to save money on gas, reduce wear, and avoid expensive repairs and replacements. Contact Crain Buick GMC of Springdale today for a service and reap a whole lot of great benefits.

How Often Should You Get Brake Service for Your Buick or GMC?

To stay safe on the road, few maintenance procedures matter more than regular brake service. As rare as it is, brake failure still causes 300,000 road accidents per year in the US. Most of these accidents are due to incautious drivers allowing their braking systems to deteriorate over time. To keep your brakes fresh and functional, let's take a look at how often to visit your local Buick or GMC dealer for a brake inspection. How Often Should You Get Brake Service for Your Buick or GMC? It Depends on Your Driving Conditions Most drivers have their brakes inspected every time they take their vehicle in for an oil change or tire rotation. This kind of twice-a-year schedule is ideal as it's easy to stick to. Once a year is also considered a safe routine to follow for the majority of drivers. But if you're usually driving in conditions that require excessive braking, consider having your brakes inspected more frequently. One example of excessive-braking conditions is daily commuting through heavy traffic that has your foot constantly pressing the pedal. This will cause your brake pads to wear down far more rapidly, and it might even lead to occasional overheating and rotor damage. Mountainous roads with long downhill stretches also put a lot of strain on your brakes, as do winding hilly roads with many sharp turns. Do You Have a Brake-Heavy Driving Style? Even the driving style of individual drivers makes a difference in how quickly their brakes wear down. If you find yourself hard braking often, then your brake pads and rotors will feel the pressure. One way to adopt a more brake-friendly habit is to take your foot off the gas and gently decelerate long in advance of traffic lights and other stops, so you barely need the brake pedal at all when you reach the stop. Ask Your GMC Dealer for Guidance It's interesting how much an experienced technician can tell about your driving style from their regular inspections of your car. A local technician will also know the surrounding roads well and will be able to tell you if it's an environment that promotes heavy braking or not. Keep an Eye Out for Brake Problems Never ignore signs of brake trouble. If you notice any of the following indicators of worn down or faulty brakes, have a professional take a look as soon as possible. High-Pitched Squealing Sounds Your brake pads wear down a little every time you slow your car. When the top frictional layer of a pad has worn down too much, it will begin to emit a high-pitched squealing sound whenever you stop. This is a surefire sign the pad needs replacing. Strange Vibrations If you feel odd vibrations when you press on the pedal, one of your rotors might be warped or damaged. You'll have to get it resurfaced or replaced as soon as possible. Sluggish Braking The most disconcerting indication of failing brakes is when you press the pedal and your car doesn't stop as rapidly as it should. This is known as brake fade, which might point to temporary overheating or something more serious. If you ever experience brake fade, pull over and allow your brakes to cool down. If the problem persists, have a trusted technician take a look. To have your brakes inspected and repaired by experienced professionals, visit Crain Buick GMC of Springdale. Buick Tire

Does Your Buick or GMC Car Need a Tire Rotation?

Periodical tire rotation is a fantastic way to keep your tires lasting longer and your handling optimized. If you're not yet convinced of the value of regular rotation, read the following five reasons why you should visit your local GMC dealer to have your tires swapped around. And if you're currently experiencing any of these problems, you might want to consider rotation today. Does Your Buick or GMC Car Need a Tire Rotation? Prevent Uneven Wear When left unattended, tires inevitably wear down unevenly. This is usually due to an excess of weight at the front of the car, and also extra pressure from the front or rear-wheel drives. Misaligned wheels or under-inflated tires can also lead to uneven wear. Regular rotation helps to spread out this tire wear evenly across all four tires, meaning the entire set lasts longer. If you currently have uneven tire wear, the rotation will help solve the problem for you. Save Money on Tires When the treads of a single tire wear down too thin, you'll need to replace all four tires. This is recommended by GMC, Buick, and most vehicle manufacturers, as well as the Tire Industry Association (TIA). The minimum tread depth by law is 2/32 of an inch. So when any one of your tires reaches close to that tread depth, you'll need a whole new set. The lifespan of tires can be anywhere from three to five years. So if you're allowing uneven tire wear to develop, then you might need to purchase tires every three years, rather than every five years. Over the lifespan of your car, that's a pretty difference in maintenance costs. Keep Handling Smooth One of the few things that can hinder the perfectly-smooth handling of a GMC or Buick is uneven tire wear. The reduced diameter of a tire with diminished treads causes it to spin faster than the others. This leads to poor handling, and can even cause wheel misalignment. If you're experiencing either of these problems, consider getting rotation today. Avoid Skids and Blowouts All it takes is one tire to lose traction on a patch of water to send you into a skid. If you allow a single tire or pair of tires to lose too much tread depth, then you're putting yourself at heightened risk of skids. The tires under the most pressure also tend to take more of a beating in terms of nicks, cracks, embedded objects, and blisters. When this kind of damage accumulates, it puts the tire at risk of a blowout. Regular rotation reduces the chances of this by spreading wear and tear across all four tires. Keep Your Warranty Valid Another financial reason to get regular rotation is simply that tire warranties usually require it. Check how often your warranty stipulates rotation, and stick to that schedule. If you don't, then in the rare event of a puncture, you might find repairs or replacements that aren't covered due to neglect. If you'd like your tires to be rotated today by certified professionals, pay a visit to Crain Buick GMC of Springdale. We're the number one Buick and GMC dealership in the region. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff are all dedicated to providing an exceptional experience to every customer who steps through our doors.

Does Your Buick or GMC Need a New Car Air Filter?

Your vehicle's engine combines air and gas in the combustion engine to produce power. The air filter keeps out road dirt, debris, and other contaminants and allows clean air to flow to the engine. When an air filter becomes dirty, it reduces the airflow, resulting in poor vehicle performance, reduced gas mileage, limited horsepower, and loads of other issues. Contact your Springdale, AR, GMC dealer for a new car air filter before more damage occurs. Do You Need a New Car Air Filter From Your Springdale, AR, GMC Dealer? Poor Gas Mileage When your vehicle burns more gas than usual, it's an indication that it's not running as smoothly as it should. An engine will consume more gas to compensate for a reduction in airflow. A dirty air filter will reduce the amount of airflow to the engine and cause your vehicle to consume more fuel. Limited Horsepower You will notice your vehicle is slow and sluggish and does not respond as it should when you step on the accelerator. Reduced horsepower could be due to a lack of airflow. It means the engine is not getting the air required to perform optimally. All you need to do to rectify the problem is replace the air filter to improve your vehicle's performance. Gas Odor When you start your car and smell gas, it could be due to a lack of oxygen. The unburnt fuel escapes through the exhaust pipe, and that's when you'll get a whiff of gasoline. If you smell gas when you start your vehicle's engine, replace the air filter to sort out the problem. Unfamiliar Engine Sounds Your car should purr like a kitten when you turn on the engine. It should vibrate subtly, and there shouldn't be any strange noises coming from the engine. If your vehicle vibrates excessively and shakes, and you hear coughing sounds when it's idling, a dirty air filter or dirty spark plugs could be the culprit. Hard Starts, Jerks, and Misfiring Do you find it hard to start your car? Does it jerk forward and misfire? The answer to the problem could be a dirty or clogged air filter reducing airflow. The unburnt fuel caused by a reduction in airflow exits the engine as soot and accumulates on the spark plugs. The soot prevents the spark plug from producing a spark to combust the air-fuel mixture. When this happens, you will find it hard to start your vehicle, and your car will jerk forward and misfire. Black Smoke and Flames As we said before, unburnt gas will escape through the exhaust pipe with a reduction in air supply. You will see black smoke pouring out of your tailpipe. In extreme cases, the heat in the exhaust system will ignite the unburnt gas, causing a flame to exit the tailpipe. Check Engine Light Is Illuminated Due to limited air supply, carbon deposits that accumulate on the engine will trigger your vehicle's check engine light. When the check engine light comes on, don't delay. Ask your technician to inspect your vehicle asap to avoid further damage. Dirty or Clogged Air Filter If you experience any of the above signs, ask your technician to check your vehicle's air filter as soon as possible. When an air filter is new, it will be white or off-white. Over time the filter becomes dirty and clogged and changes to a darker color. When the filter is dusty and dirty, it reduces airflow to the engine, resulting in the issues described above. To ensure optimal vehicle performance and save money on gas and repairs, replace your vehicle's air filter at the factory recommended intervals. Contact Crain Buick GMC of Springdale today. Our certified technicians will perform a thorough inspection and ensure that your vehicle is in tip-top condition. Image by Peter H from Pixabay
